Most of the time, when we create a website, we are advertising something. Whether it be ourselves, a company, or a product, it is important to design a website’s interface with a target audience in mind. This practice is commonly referred to as user interface (UI) design. According to the Interaction Design Foundation, “user interface (UI) design is the process designers use to build interfaces in software or computerized devices, focusing on looks or style. Designers aim to create interfaces which users find easy to use and pleasurable. UI design refers to graphical user interfaces and other forms—e.g., voice-controlled interfaces.” There are many HTML tools that may be used to help achieve a pleasurable experience for a website’s user. Some of the most common features designers play around with are typography, page layout, and color. One feature, however, that often gets overlooked is animation. Oftentimes, designers either are not aware of the feature, or fail to recognize the potential in HTML5 animation. In this article, we will cover the basics of animation, its significance, how to incorporate it, and some examples of effective uses.
